Middle Powers Initiative and the Canadian Mission to the UN host a roundtable of governments to discuss nuclear disarmament issues and proposals. The roundtable highlights the need for diplomacy, cooperation and high-level political commitments to reduce nuclear threats and reverse a new nuclear arms race.
Basel Peace Office participates in opening sessions of the UN Open Ended Working Group on Nuclear Disarmament (OEWG) in February. OEWG resumes its sessions May 2-13. Basel Peace Office submits recommendations to the OEWG.
Forum follows up the 2015 NPT Review Conference and prepares for the 70th session of the UN General Assembly. Topics include diplomacy, reducing reliance on nuclear weapons, legal measures and UN processes to achieve a nuclear-weapon-free world.
